WELCOME TO CAUSES, PRACTICES AND EFFECTS OF WAR (PAPER 2- SL)
In this unit you will study:
These are examples of total war. A total war is when a belligerent (a participating country) mobilizes (uses) all available resources and population. Put more simply, every aspect of a country's society and economy is geared towards war. It is not just soldiers who are involved, but civilians too. Rationing is often introduced and curfews put in place. In World War 1 and World War 2, civilian population centers were targeted for aerial bombardment. Both wars saw the use of industrial warfare, producing more efficient weapons that were responsible for more death and destruction. Please note that total war does not result in total destruction, but total mobilization.
We will also study 2 or 3 other wars and I would like your input on what those should be. The current Year 12 have elected to study the Chinese Civil War, Algerian War of Independence and Gulf War. Please look in the History Guide on Edmodo for the options of what you can study. Ideally one should be a civil war and one should be a limited war (where there is limited tactics, technology or mobilization or where combat is limited to a particular area or region) or guerilla war.
